Songs You Need To Know
The following is a list of songs that everyone should have. This is what I call “mood setting music.” I listen to these songs when I want to be inspired.
Angie Aparo – Wonderland
Butch Walker – Don’t Move
Jump Little Children – Close Your Eyes
Counting Crows – Colorblind
Five For Fighting – Love Song
Greg Laswell – High and Low
Mindy Smith – Down in Flames
Seabird – Maggie Mahoney
Paramore – Hallelujah
Sigur Rós – Glósóli
Matthew Perryman Jones – Save You
What are some of your “mood setting songs?”
Yes We’re Still Doing It!
I’ve gotten a ton of calls lately from people asking if our church will still be doing the song “Healer.” Of course we’re still doing it. Why wouldn’t we?
Just because the writer is going through some issues doesn’t mean that the song isn’t a great worship song!
Do we need to throw out the book of Psalms because David committed adultery? No. God uses messed up people all the time to do great things.
Dirty Room
This is what happens when I have control of one off the rooms in our house. Everything I own is in this room. It serves as a closet/music room/trash can.
Any other messy people our there?
Labor Day
I’m spending my Labor Day at the pool with my family and then playing a 3 hour show at The Rutledge(8:30-11:30).
What are you doing with your day off?
Weird Tradition
I have a confession to make.
I eat food in even bites. I’ve done it all my life. I don’t know why, but I can’t eat an odd number of bites. Steaks, M & Ms, sandwich’s, chicken nuggets, it’s all the same. I count each bite until my food is gone to ensure that it goes down in an even number.
There I feel better.
Do any of you have any weird traditions?
In My Head
Do horrible songs ever creep into your brain? Ace of Bass is stuck in my head. It won’t leave. It’s been in my head so long that I’m starting to like the song again.
What song is stuck in your head today?
Change in Church
If you could change one thing about your Sunday morning experience, what would it be and why?
Influence, Culture, and Relevance
I’m starting to realize how powerful words can be.
Hi, I’m Jarrod. I’m the guy who used to post 3 or 4 times a week. I was the guy who would ask controversial stuff and just watch, as my stats would rise.
But I’m also the guy who freaks out when ever he feels like too many people are watching him.
I hate feeling like a leader. I hate feeling like people are taking my words to heart. I hate the pressure that comes with responsibility.
I can try fighting it all day long, but I have to face facts. I have influence. And it’s my job to decide how I use that influence. I can waste it away one post at a time, or I can choose to use my influence to advance the kingdom.
So I’m choosing the kingdom.
In the next few weeks, I’ll be changing my format. I’ll be trying to center all my post around culture and relevance. I may not get it right all the time, but I’ll try my hardest.
Do any of you struggle with influence?
