Ahhhh!

July 31, 2008 at 8:01 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , )

I’m having one of those weeks where nothing is going my way. I’ve tried everything I can to control my circumstances, but I’m slowly and painfully loosing the battle.

Is this where faith comes into the picture? Is this where I trust that God will save the day? Is that God’s job?

Give me your thoughts.

A Concert In Church?

July 29, 2008 at 12:14 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , )

I used to hate when people would tell me that our church services felt like a “concert.” They’d tell me it was too loud and too rocking. (Most of these people’s reference to concerts came from seeing artists like Kenny G)

But now I don’t get offended.

In fact, I hope it sounds like a concert in church.

But, not a concert for the congregation, it’s a concert of worship to our Lord.

We’re there to honor and praise God. Let’s make it loud. Let’s join our voices and instruments to make a wonderful noise to our Saviors ear.

Any thoughts or opinions?

chech this out

July 25, 2008 at 1:28 am (Uncategorized) (, )

This was a comment on a recent Los blog. The blog was called “I Hate When My Worship Leader…” and everyone chimed in on the things they dislike about their worship leader. This guys comment floored me.

I hate it when my worship leader…
-has to remind Christians that corporate worship is a mandate from God.

-has to risk being a cheerleader because the people that claim to love God exhibit no sense of joy when singing about Him.

-has to burn the first song because 75% of the congregation is late, talking in the lobby, perfecting their coffee, or sleep walking instead of enthusiastically taking advantage of celebrating our Savior with like-hearted people.

-has to endure darts of personal preference from hundreds of individuals who have lost sight of what Sunday worship time is prescribed by God to be.

-is treated as a thoughtless hire rather than a divinely appointed servant.

-is expected to never get nervous but be humble,
execute notes and lyrics without flaw while avoiding performance and being vulnerable,
make no effort to teach or guide but don’t be a juke box, and stay traditional and contemporary,
all while burying, birthing and resurrecting songs appropriately.

I’m sure that’s easy to do!

Wow! That’s hard-core.

Letting Go

July 22, 2008 at 10:57 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , )

Do you ever feel like you’re naked in front of a crowed when you worship God in church?

I do.

I feel like I’m being watched. Even when I don’t know any of the people I’m worshiping with. I feel like I’m being judged and I feel like people are analyzing my outward expressions of worship.

I think that we, as the body, need to learn to let go and forget about everyone else around us.

But how do we do that? Do we pretend that we’re the only people around?

I think that letting go means that we except the fact that we’re surrounded and don’t let it effect the way we worship our savior. No one should be influencing our praise in a negative way.

Do any of you struggle with worshiping in public?

Hard Core Church Singers

July 6, 2008 at 11:38 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , )

At our 6pm service we had about 100 ex cons in attendance.

I know that sounds weird, but it was awesome. These guys were teaching me new ways of expressing myself in worship.

These guys didn’t know any of the songs, but that didn’t stop them from singing their hearts out.

One guy sat on the front row and danced all through the music. I don’t mean the “white sway” that you sometimes see in church. This guy was going to town and didn’t care who saw him.

He was worshiping.

He was excited about God.

It’s amazing to see the full body of Christ(the church) in worship.

Pack-Rat Soul

June 30, 2008 at 9:41 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , )

Do you have clothes in your closet that you don’t wear, but you keep them “just in case?” As if one day you will need to wear that 3-piece corduroy suit or maybe Hawaiian shirts will be coming back in style soon.

Not likely!

But we hang onto them anyway.

I’m finding that I keep sin in my life the same way I keep those old clothes. Or, at least I keep the vises that lead to sin.

My close friends know that I have a little bit of an eating problem. I just love food. If it’s in the house, I’m going to eat it all. So I’m going to try and stop having sweets in my home. I don’t want my son to be a glutton like me.

Do any of you have vises that are tempting you?
